INSPIRATION FOR ART FROM THE WEATHER – PART II

INSPIRATION FOR ART FROM THE WEATHER – PART II

We don’t have much rain in Reno but we do have snow. My most current series focuses on that snow. I’m looking out my window as I write this and see a blanket two feet deep of the snow that has been falling all day and night. We are snowed in and I can go nowhere and have nothing to do but write my blog.

Unlike rain snow has no sound…it softly covers the landscape and cityscape with a white blanket that brings everything together in what we artists call “unity” and which is essential to all works of art. I love looking through the window and watching the flakes come down. I don’t know when they will stop or how thick the covering will become. I do know that it is bringing welcome moisture to our deserty environment.

My snow series starts with “Bicycles in the Snow” shown at the top of the page. Look carefully to see three bikes slowly being covered with the snow that is coming down. The setting is probably Boston. I love the neutral tones of the buildings in the painting.

The second watermedia batik painting is “Trees in the Snow”. There is a surprise in this painting also. Look for the little fur tree in the center sitting on a pedestal.

Thirdly, I did this painting for our Christmas card, “Christmas in the City”. Young people are enjoying a snowy day in a downtown area. I picture them returning to one of the homes to find a warm fire and some hot chocolate.

These three paintings have not yet sold as I am writing this blog. Contact me if you are interested in purchasing any one of them.
